Where Did GRRLSOUND Come From?
"I think I always understood that music would be woven into whatever path my life took. So when the opportunity to work in the industry finally presented itself, saying yes was never even a question..."
"I think I always understood that music would be woven into whatever path my life took. So when the opportunity to work in the industry finally presented itself, saying yes was never even a question. That love I had carried for years was what eventually pushed me through the door and into the New York music scene, where I began working primarily in underground rap. I was exactly where I was always meant to be, or so I thought.
It was around 2022 when I began taking small opportunities in music management, stepping into a world I had dreamed about for years. What I found instead, was a version of something women in this industry have been navigating for generations. The music industry has a long and well-documented history of reducing women to their appearance, their desirability, and their willingness to play along. Women who were more talented, more driven, and more visionary than the men around them were passed over, pushed out, or exploited simply because they were women. That history did not stay in the past. I felt it firsthand and I'm sure you have too. I was either being pursued for the wrong reasons entirely, or ignored because I did not serve someone's ulterior motives. My ideas were dismissed. My presence was sexualized. No matter how prepared, how capable, or how passionate I was, I was made to feel like I had to work eight times harder than any man in the room just to be taken half as seriously. And even then, it was never quite enough.
I began internalizing every comment, every unwanted pass, every moment of being talked over or looked through. What had started as a lifelong dream had become a constant, exhausting battle to prove my own worth in a space that had already decided what I was worth before I even opened my mouth. Eventually, I gave up.
For a few years I stepped back from the industry almost entirely, though I continued helping close friends with smaller projects. Even in that distance, the longing never left. Music was a voice inside me that refused to be silenced, no matter how much the industry had tried to quiet it. I wanted to come back, but the fear of returning to that environment held me back.
When I started opening up to friends about it, something shifted. Story after story poured out, and I realized this was not my experience alone. Women across the industry, at every level, have been carrying this same weight. Overlooked when they are not convenient, sexualized when they are. Forced to shrink themselves, prove themselves, and fight for a seat at a table that was never even built with them in mind. Men have moved freely through these spaces for decades, facing none of the same scrutiny, none of the same barriers, and none of the same cost. That is not an accident. It is a system, and it is one that has gone unchallenged for far too long.
So, with this rage, GRRLSOUND was born. I launched this project in September 2025 with one clear mission: to give women in music the platform, the tools, and the community they have always deserved but rarely been given. This is a space built specifically to reignite the spark that the industry tries so hard to dim. Whether you have been sexualized, sidelined, talked over, or made to feel like you are too much and never enough all at once, this space was made for you. You are not alone, you are not crazy, and you are not finished. GRRLSOUND exists to make sure of that. So rise up, use every resource we have to offer, and one day look back and give a resounding 'f**k you' to every person who ever had the audacity to doubt you."
GRRLSOUND is your online toolbox for all things music.
"We want you to win. We want you to feel empowered, unstoppable, and ready to take up every bit of space you have always deserved."
GRRLSOUND was built with one purpose in mind: to set you up for success. Whether you are just getting started, looking to level up, or simply trying to fill in the gaps, we have the resources, the tools, and the community to meet you exactly where you are. Every step of your music career has a place here.
The music industry has been dominated by men for long enough. Women have been pushed to the sidelines, forced to shrink themselves, and made to feel like guests in a space they helped build. GRRLSOUND exists to change that. This is our space now, and we are not asking for permission.
Most importantly, GRRLSOUND is powered by women, for women. We believe that when women in music find each other, something extraordinary happens. We connect you with a community of like-minded women, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem of empowerment where knowledge is shared freely, doors are held open, and no woman ever has to fight for her seat alone again.
What We Stand For
GRRLSOUND was built on the belief that music and creativity should be accessible, inclusive, and safe for everyone. This is a community rooted in respect, for each other, for the art, and for the values that brought us all here.
To protect that space, we have established the following community guidelines. These are not suggestions, they are the foundation of everything we do. Violating any of these guidelines is prohibited.
Respect & Inclusion
We have a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination or harassment of any kind. This includes but is not limited to racism, transphobia, homophobia, misogyny, hate speech, and the use of hate symbols. GRRLSOUND is a space built by and for people who have historically been pushed to the margins of the music industry, we will not recreate those same harmful dynamics here.
Pronouns Matter
We ask that all members of our community respect and use each other's preferred pronouns. Intentional misgendering will not be tolerated.
Safety First
Sexual harassment, bullying, and cyberbullying of any kind have no place in this community. Whether interactions happen online or in person, all members are expected to treat one another with dignity and professionalism.
Always Use a Contract
Regardless of the nature of the work, we strongly encourage all collaborations facilitated through GRRLSOUND to be conducted under a formal contract. Contracts exist to protect everyone involved and to ensure that all parties are treated fairly and compensated appropriately.
Authentic Art Only
GRRLSOUND is committed to showcasing real human creativity. AI-generated art and beats will NOT be featured on our platform. We believe in supporting artists, real ones.
Content Standards
We reserve the right to review, filter, or remove any content that violates these guidelines or goes against the spirit of what GRRLSOUND represents. Our goal is not to censor creativity — it is to protect our community.
